Teams that don't fill a full bracket get a bye into round 2. Top seeds get the byes.

How to run a knockout tournament

  1. List your teams, one per line, best team first if you want seeding (or tick random seeding).
  2. Press Make bracket. Each round appears as a column, ending in the final.
  3. After each match, click the winning team. It moves into the next round automatically.
  4. Made a mistake? Click the other team in that match: later rounds reset so nothing is out of date.

Seeding and byes

Brackets work in powers of two (4, 8, 16, 32, 64). With 6 teams the bracket is 8 slots, so the top 2 seeds get a bye straight into the next round. Seeding follows the standard pattern, 1 v 8, 4 v 5, 2 v 7, 3 v 6, so the top two seeds can only meet in the final.
