Monitor refresh rate test (Hz)

Check your monitor is really running at 144, 165 or 240 Hz, not stuck at 60.

Hardware

Your screen is refreshing at

…Hz

Measuring… keep this tab in front

The dot moves at the same speed on every screen. At a higher refresh rate it looks smoother, with less blur and stutter.

How the test works

Your browser draws a new frame every time the screen refreshes. The test times those frames and turns the gap between them into Hz: a frame every 6.9 ms is 144 Hz, every 4.2 ms is 240 Hz. If you have two monitors, it measures the one this window is on.

Showing 60 Hz on a 144 Hz monitor?

  • Windows 11: Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, then pick the highest refresh rate.
  • Cable and port: use DisplayPort or the cable that came with the monitor, plugged into the graphics card, not the motherboard.
  • Power saving: laptops on battery and browser energy-saver modes can lower the frame rate. Plug in, turn them off and test again.
  • Safari: it can cap web pages at 60 Hz even on a faster screen. Try Chrome or Edge.

Why refresh rate matters in games

A higher refresh rate shows each new frame sooner and moves more smoothly, so targets are easier to track. Pair it with a mouse that reports often: check yours with the polling rate test, then put it to work on the aim trainer.
