How to measure your mouse DPI
- Lay a ruler on your mouse pad and line the front edge of your mouse up with zero.
- Enter the distance you'll move (5 cm or 2 inches is plenty) and press Start.
- Slide the mouse to the right in a straight line, stop exactly at your mark, and click.
- Do it three times. The average is your real DPI.
Why the result can differ from your setting
DPI (or CPI) is how many counts your mouse sends per inch of movement. Many mice are a few percent off what the software says, and that's enough to make the same sensitivity feel different on a new mouse. Within about 5% is normal.
Chrome and Edge on Windows read raw counts, so Windows settings don't matter. Elsewhere, set Windows pointer speed to the middle (6 of 11) and turn off "Enhance pointer precision" before testing.
Use your real DPI
Put the measured number into the eDPI calculator for your true cm/360, or into the DPI converter to keep the same feel after switching mice.
