How the 5 second CPS test works
Five seconds is the standard CPS test length: long enough that a lucky burst doesn't decide it, short enough to go flat out the whole way.
The timer starts on your first click. Your score is total clicks ÷ 5, so a run of 35 clicks scores 7 CPS. Your best score for each test length is saved in this browser.
What is a good CPS?
With normal clicking, most people score somewhere between 5 and 8 CPS. Special techniques go much higher. As a rough guide:
| 0–4 | Warming up |
| 4–6 | Casual clicker |
| 6–8 | Above average |
| 8–11 | Fast: jitter-click range |
| 11–15 | Very fast: butterfly-click range |
| 15+ | Drag-click territory |
How to click faster
- Jitter clicking: tense your forearm so your finger vibrates on the button. Fast, but tiring. Try the jitter click test.
- Butterfly clicking: alternate two fingers on the same button. Easier to hold for longer tests. Try the butterfly click test.
- Drag clicking: slide a fingertip across the button so friction makes it bounce. Works on some mice only. Try the drag click test.
- Take breaks. Clicking hard for long stretches strains your wrist and wears out mouse switches.
Other test lengths
Score looks too high? A worn switch can register one press as two. Check with the double click test.
